Is Life Coaching For Me?

Well, since we all have a human brain that insists on protecting us from the "dangers" of everyday life, like: 

  • working towards a goal
  • making a big decision, or
  • doing chores

The Non Profit "Work-Life Balance"

So often, we talk about work & life as if they are separate entities. But if you’re anything like me, and you work in non-profit it feels like your work IS your life. You may have come to this work through very personal experiences, & every time you turn on the TV or open that news notification, you hear about another crisis targeting your beloved mission.


No matter what mission or career (nonprofit, corporate, etc)* you are in, there's talk about work-life balance, & your employers say they are working on it, but at the end of the actual day, you end up taking your work home with you, constantly checking emails, sneaking in a reply or quick text while the water boils for dinner, & putting in more hours once the kids are in bed. 


Only to wake up & do it all over again. 


You love it. 

It’s critical.

And it’s slowly (or quickly) burning you out. 


You’re exhausted, physically & emotionally. 

But without it, you may ask, “Who am I without this work?”


You may say: 

  • “There just aren’t enough hours in the day.” 
  • “If I could just get 2 hours to myself, I’d <insert any number of items here>. 


And once you get those two hours? You just stare at the wall. Or stuff your face with Pringles and binge watch Netflix.


Sound familiar? I get it. I literally, actually do.

Sexual & Reproductive Health Decisions

Are you navigating the complexities of life & your sexual & reproductive health decisions? Would you like someone to hold supportive, non-judgmental space for you during your journey?


Perhaps you are someone who is:

  • Considering whether or not to start a family as a part of your goals in life.
  • Trying to figure out which contraceptive option is best for you.
  • Pregnant & considering an abortion, adoption, or parenting plan.
  • Going through perimenopause or menopause.
  • Deciding whether or not, how, or when to come out to your family/friends.
  • Struggling with the expectations of faith, family, friends & community.


Many folx don’t have anyone to talk to about the thoughts & feelings they are having & are just holding these issues in their own minds and hearts. 


Maybe you: 

  • live in a state with low to no access to sexual health services & just need someone to hold space while you figure things out.
  • are navigating your contraceptive options & want to better understand what fits best in your life before connecting with a healthcare provider.
  • are very sure you are going to have an abortion & came to that decision easily, perhaps feeling relief, empowerment, &  gratitude for having had the procedure…but don't have anyone to share your decision or emotions with who will support you.
  • are very sure you want to have an abortion, & are feeling heavy feelings about your decision, before, during and/or after the procedure.
  • are coming to terms with your pregnancy & are scared & don’t know what to do or who to talk to.
  • are coming to realize you are a part of the LGBTQ2IA+ community & are not really sure what it all means- for you, your future, your relationships, your family, your faith.
  • are ready to come out to their family & aren’t sure how or when.
  • are navigating life changes in body, heart & mind and need a witness to make sense of it all.
  • are struggling with your religion, or lack of religion, & aren’t sure how to handle these thoughts or feelings- especially when life gets hard. 


The added layer of stigma around sexual & reproductive health topics adds compounding emotions of shame, guilt, fear, & grief that often keeps or delays a person from making the best decision for their own health, safety, & lived experience.


If you would like to have a supported space to think through these or other situations, I’m here to listen deeply, uphold your autonomy & respect your decisions. You are not alone in your thoughts or feelings. I can help you sift through them & get clear on what YOU want to do with your body & your life.

Messy Space, Messy Mind

Do you feel compelled to clean & organize your space before you tackle a responsibility or action towards a goal?


Maybe you need to:

  • write a paper for school;
  • prepare for a presentation at work;
  • make an important phone call;
  • send that resignation email,;or
  • go live on a new project.


You may be feeling:

  • nervous;
  • anxious; or 
  • scared.

to do whatever it is that you need to take care of.  Maybe you actually WANT to do the thing, but you still put it off.


So instead of actually doing the thing you need to do, you do the next best and most obvious (lol) thing: 

  • empty, purge, and organize all of your kitchen cabinets;
  • sort your Lego's by color; or 
  • alphabetize your bookshelves. 


This may sound funny or even irrational, AND, so many of us do this! 

Have you ever wondered why??


Your brain thinks it needs to protect you from anything that makes you have uncomfortable feelings. But you aren't being chased by lions anymore and you will actually survive doing that hard thing. (Take a breath, brain!). 


Also, your brain reflects your environment. If we you are stressed out by your surroundings, the mess, the piles, the clutter, or the overflowing dishes in the sink, your brain feels messy & unorganized, too. 


So when you have important (and maybe stressful) business to attend to, your brain opts to clean up your space instead!


This may seems fine cuz lots of us also put off cleaning and organizing, but, it's really just a buffer or barrier between our feelings and taking care of our important responsibilities and goals!
